Hunting

Our terriers are used for practical work.
They are worked to Fox and Badger in natural sets.

On top of the ground they ate used as beaters, where they find game and beat them up to the guns. Normally they work with full cry. They are used for Roe Deer, Fallow and Red Deer, Moose and Wild Boar. Today mostly Wild Boar.

Most of our dogs do bark when they are close up to an animal. This is good both for the handler and the people with the guns.
Some of the dogs are used for research for wounded animals (blood tracking)

Wild Boar are very common where we use our terriers. We have a hand full which we can call specialized for Boar hunting. Mostly a dog get upset of the smell from a Boar. Sture, Gambi, Binni, Hardy, Smith and Ärtan are most used by our dogs. Largest herd beatened last season was 15 heads - by Flynn. Largest Boar shot 1998 was a throphy one - beatened up to the gun by Flynn. Largest over all was an old sow 1991 beatened by Brock. A wounded Boar is dangerous! The longest reserarch was done by Thommy. It took 8 hours during dark woods before the Boar was found.

Research for Deer or Moose is done in a harness or a special wide collar. Some dogs are used off lead when the woods are deep.

For more than ten years ago the Foxes in Sweden where badly infected with sarcoptic mange.

The population was very poor and there where hardly a healthy Fox to be seen. This continued.

The terriers where used for Badgers (fully legal) instedad.
And at the same time we started to find new games to work, like all type of Deer.

The sport of working Jack Russells on top of ground became popular as it was found out the breed was usefull, clever and easy to train.

At present time the stain of Foxes are better and there are quite some opportunities to hunt them again. Ofcourse we can still se the infected ones but not that often.
Our dogs work Fox and Badger when opportunity is given.
They are also asked for when Badgers have gone under houses in the village and the keeper can not trap them.

To keep a stain of healty Foxes in Sweden, earthwork must be continued!
